Yongin City Invests 4.3 Billion KRW to Upgrade Sound and Video Facilities and Expand Seating
A Series of Diverse Performances Including Classical Music, Pop, and Musicals
Yongin Poeun Art Hall, operated by Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province, is emerging as a hub for cultural and artistic performances through extensive facility improvements. With a series of classical and popular culture performances, it is establishing itself as a representative performance space not only for local residents but also for the entire Gyeonggi Province area.

The transformation of Yongin Poeun Art Hall follows Yongin City's recent investment of 4.28 billion KRW in a major facility upgrade.
The city increased the seating capacity from 1,259 to 1,525 by utilizing idle spaces on the first and second floors of Yongin Poeun Art Hall, securing competitiveness to attract large-scale performances. This makes it the third largest performance venue in Gyeonggi Province. Along with this, the stage sound and video facilities were also replaced with the latest equipment.
Since the facility improvements, large-scale performances have been held continuously. On January 14-15, singer Lee Moon-se's concert "2024-25 Theatre Lee Moon-se" was sold out. Earlier, on January 8, conductor Chung Myung-whun and pianist Sunwoo Yekwon performed a classical concert with the KBS Symphony Orchestra. On January 25-26, the musical "Chicago" was staged, and on the previous month’s 8-9, the performance "Gwanghwamun Yeonga" took place, successfully hosting a variety of performances across genres.
More major performances are scheduled here in the future. On January 22-23, trot singer Jang Min-ho’s nationwide tour concert "Hoshijeol (好時節): Time Travel" will be held. From February 18-20, the musical "Empress Myeongseong" will be staged to commemorate the 30th anniversary since its premiere in 1995. On May 24-25, the children’s musical "Love’s Hatchuping," based on an animated film, will be performed.
The city plans to develop not only the Yongin Poeun Art Hall performance hall but also the plaza into a space where various performances and cultural activities can be enjoyed. To this end, 4.5 billion KRW in national and city funds secured through this year’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism contest will be used to renovate the outdoor plaza. Media facades and LED electronic displays will also be installed in the plaza.
Lee Sang-il, mayor of Yongin City, said, "Going forward, Poeun Art Hall will become a distinctive cultural space where artists active in various fields and citizens participate together," adding, "We will make it a leading art and tourism landmark in Korea where high-quality performances are held across generations and genres."
