Coupang Ranked 2nd Among 'World's Most Innovative Retail Companies'
Survey by U.S. Tech and Economic Media 'Fast Company'
Second in Retail Sector, Following J.Crew
"Explosive Growth Driven by Robust Logistics Network Including Rocket Fresh"
Growth Businesses Like Farfetch and R.lux Receive High Praise
Coupang Inc., the parent company of Coupang, was ranked 2nd in the 'Most Innovative Retail Companies in the World for 2025' selected by the U.S. technology and economic media Fast Company.
According to related industries on the 19th, Coupang was named one of the top 10 innovative companies in the retail sector alongside J.Crew (1st), IKEA (3rd), and Amazon (8th) in this survey. Fast Company selected 609 companies that showed the most innovative business performance last year across 58 categories including automobiles, robotics, home appliances, and beauty.
Fast Company evaluated, "Coupang's 'one-stop e-commerce,' which integrates Rocket Fresh, Coupang Play, Wow Membership, and free shipping benefits to continuously drive customer revisits, has led the company's explosive growth through a solid logistics infrastructure built over the past 15 years." They also introduced, "Last year, Coupang acquired the UK luxury e-commerce Farfetch, which had never made a profit, and reached the break-even point. In Korea, they launched the innovative beauty application 'R.lux' that delivers luxury products on the same day."
In particular, they highly evaluated that while Coupang's sales (in dollars) grew by 24% compared to the previous year, growth businesses such as Farfetch and Coupang Eats expanded by 296%. Previously, Coupang was ranked 2nd in the Asia-Pacific region in the '2020 Most Innovative Companies in the World' ranking selected by Fast Company in 2020. At the end of last month, it was also selected as one of the '2025 Global Top 100 Innovative Companies' by the U.S.-based global patent analysis company LexisNexis.
Hashal Wanzari, Vice President of Engineering at Coupang, said, "Coupang's machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) systems strengthen operations such as search, payment, and fulfillment with trillions of daily predictions," and added, "Through technology investment, we have created a unique model that drives the success of hundreds of thousands of small and medium-sized business partners and tens of millions of customers worldwide." In fact, the number of global patents held by Coupang has increased about threefold over the past four years, exceeding 2,100.
