Dongdaemun-gu to Create 11,351 Jobs This Year by Promoting Traditional Medicine and Fashion Sewing Industries

Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) announced on the 19th that it plans to create 11,351 direct and indirect public jobs by 2025.

Based on the four major strategies of ▲discovering and supporting youth policies ▲creating a vibrant economic city ▲building a new future city ▲establishing a pleasant and safe urban foundation, the district will invest approximately 92.9 billion KRW this year, aiming to create 11,351 jobs, which is 9.18% higher than last year’s target of 10,397 jobs.

To this end, the district will first operate programs to enhance youth employment capabilities in cooperation with three local universities (Kyung Hee University, University of Seoul, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies), and establish a Youth Startup Support Center in Hwikyung-dong to provide tailored support such as startup consulting for young people.

Public jobs supporting economically vulnerable groups will also be expanded. Employment opportunities for socially disadvantaged groups will be increased through ▲Donghaeng jobs ▲Senior jobs ▲Jobs for the disabled, and the ‘50 Plus Center’ and ‘Job Center’ will assist middle-aged and older adults with employment and entrepreneurship. Lee Hye-young, head of the Youth Policy Employment Division, said, “Revitalizing the Cheongnyangni station area is also one of the core strategies for job creation,” adding, “The goal is to develop the Cheongnyangni area, selected as a candidate site for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s spatial innovation zone pilot project, into a complex cultural space to create quality jobs.”

Along with this, the district will foster the ‘fashion sewing industry’ centered on the Fashion Sewing Complex Support Center and the ‘Korean medicine industry’ centered on the Seoul Korean Medicine Promotion Center.

Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, said, “We will strive to provide quality public jobs and necessary job training opportunities to residents who are willing to work but face difficulties in finding employment.”

Last year, the district invested about 78.9 billion KRW in 196 projects, providing a total of 10,986 direct and indirect jobs to local residents.

Direct jobs, which provide wages through work such as environmental maintenance self-support labor, were operated in 138 projects with 6,037 jobs, while indirect jobs, which help develop employment skills such as qualification acquisition support activities, were operated in 58 projects with 4,949 jobs.
