Senior Citizens Also Publicly Support the 'Verified Candidate for Proper Education'
North Korean defectors from the Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam regions have publicly declared their support for Kim Seokjun, candidate for Superintendent of Busan Metropolitan Office of Education.
On the afternoon of the 18th, Oh Taegyeom, president of the North Korean Defectors' Self-Reliance Support Council, along with defectors from the Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam areas, announced their support for candidate Kim Seokjun at his campaign office.
They stated, "Children of North Korean defectors face linguistic, cultural, and economic difficulties as they adapt to a new educational environment, and are confronted with the reality of not being able to fully enjoy learning opportunities. After carefully analyzing the policies and visions of the candidates running in the Busan Superintendent by-election, we strongly empathized with Kim Seokjun’s policies and commitment to implementation, leading us to declare our support."
The representatives of the defectors said, "We believe that candidate Kim will promote policies to eliminate discrimination and prejudice so that children of North Korean defectors can enjoy equal educational opportunities regardless of their backgrounds. In particular, we expect him to systematically establish academic support systems to guarantee fair evaluation and learning rights, and to strengthen teacher training to enhance understanding at the educational field."
They also requested, "We hope that educational opportunities will be expanded so that children of North Korean defectors can pursue their dreams without giving up on their studies, and that more opportunities for academic and career advancement will be provided through systematic operation of special university admissions and scholarship programs."
They further emphasized, "We are confident that candidate Kim is the right person to implement policies for fair education regardless of background, such as expanding support for alternative schools so that customized education can be provided for the individual situations of North Korean defector children. We will continue to support and cheer for candidate Kim's victory until the end."
Earlier, at 1:30 p.m. on the same day, senior citizens of Busan who support the future generation visited Kim Seokjun’s campaign office and declared their support for him.
The seniors stated, "Candidates who defend rebellious forces, turn a blind eye to the corruption of those in power, or irresponsibly leave the acting superintendent position to create a chain of acting authorities are not qualified for the superintendent role. We support the verified candidate Kim Seokjun, who will provide the right education so that the future generation can grow into citizens with a correct sense of history and as active, participating members of democracy."
