"In Turbulent Times, the Cultural Scene Is Dying"... Kim Jang-hoon Laments Announcing Suncheon Concert Cancellation

Kim Jang-hoon Explains the Reason for Suncheon Concert Cancellation
Says, "Difficult Times for the Cultural Industry... I Have Never Seen It This Bad"
Promises, "I Will Definitely Return When Things Improve"

"We bring the unfortunate news that the Suncheon performance has been canceled."

Singer Kim Jang-hoon, who is conducting a nationwide tour concert, revealed the reason for the cancellation of the Suncheon performance. On the 17th, he posted on his social networking service (SNS), "(The concert cancellation) reason is poor sales. There will naturally be criticism like, 'No matter how poor the sales are, since it is a promise with the audience, it should be kept unless it is an accident like last time,'” he said.

He then conveyed that the cultural industry is going through difficulties. He expressed regret, saying, "I don't think this has ever happened even when times were bad before."

He continued, “Due to the current chaotic situation, almost all culture in South Korea has died,” lamenting. Currently, the Suncheon performance has just over 10% of the total seats booked. He said, “Both the agency and I were very surprised,” and confessed, “I don't think this has ever happened even when times were bad before.”

Previously, Kim Jang-hoon had to cancel a performance once due to the Jeju Air Muan disaster. He said, "During the last Suncheon performance, a martial law situation occurred, and from that day ticket bookings completely stopped, but about 70% were booked," adding, "However, the last performance was canceled on the day due to the Muan accident, and thankfully the agency understood."

Kim Jang-hoon said, "For this performance, I was going to not take any guarantee fees to compensate for the agency's losses, and I was going to pay the guarantees for the band and my staff myself. I tried my best, but even so, if the performance had proceeded, the damage to the local agency would have been too great, so the agency proposed the cancellation." He then expressed sympathy by noting that agencies are going through difficulties, saying, "When something happens, the cultural sector is the first to suffer."

He added, "I even thought about covering all losses myself and performing my best for 50 or 100 minutes. The Seoul performance ticket prices are very low due to my concert philosophy, and a deficit is expected given the circumstances, so I still don't have the capacity to take on Suncheon as well." Kim Jang-hoon promised, "When times get better someday, I will definitely come. Or, if my business does well and I earn a lot of money, no matter the situation, I will take responsibility and perform."

Kim Jang-hoon apologized, saying, "I am very sorry. When times get better someday, I will definitely come (to Suncheon). The best thing is if trust in my performances builds up like before and things go well regardless of the times." He added, "Even in this situation, performances that do well are doing well. Those with strong fandoms or trot concerts seem to be okay. I am lacking," expressing his apology.

Kim Jang-hoon asked the audience in Suncheon, "I will definitely come back with a great performance, so I humbly ask for your understanding just this once with a generous heart." Fans left supportive comments on Kim Jang-hoon's SNS to comfort him.

Meanwhile, Kim Jang-hoon started the ‘2025 Kim Jang-hoon Nationwide Tour Concert One-Man Show’ on the 22nd with a performance in Changwon.
