Min Hyung-bae Hospitalized Due to Health Deterioration in the Morning
Former Governor Kim Kyung-soo on 10th Day of Hunger Strike
On the 18th, the members of the 'Yoon Seok-yeol Impeachment Opposition 5-Party National Assembly Members' Coalition' (Impeachment Coalition), who had started a hunger strike demanding dismissal after the cancellation of President Yoon Seok-yeol's arrest, stopped their hunger strike on the 8th day of fasting.
Park Soo-hyun, co-representative of the Impeachment Coalition and a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, stated on his social media service (SNS) that "the leadership of the opposition 5 parties, including Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party, expressed the opinion that 'it would be good to stop the hunger strike'." Park added, "After consulting with the Impeachment Coalition members who were on hunger strike, we decided to accept this intention. The hunger strike protest will be suspended as of noon today."
Earlier, members of the Democratic Party including Park Soo-hyun, Min Hyung-bae, Kim Jun-hyeok, Seo Young-seok, Wi Seong-gon, and Jinbo Party floor leader Yoon Jong-oh began their hunger strike on the 11th at the Gwanghwamun protest site in Jongno-gu, Seoul. Min Hyung-bae was transported to the hospital after collapsing due to deteriorating health that morning.
The hunger strike will be continued by first-term lawmakers. Members of 'The Mincho,' a group of first-term Democratic Party lawmakers, including Yang Moon-seok, Lee Jae-gang, Lim Mi-ae, Chae Hyun-il, and Jinbo Party member Jung Hye-kyung, began their hunger strike at the same location from noon that day.
On the same day at Gwanghwamun, former Gyeongnam Governor Kim Kyung-soo, who entered the 10th day of his hunger strike, was reported to have experienced drops in blood pressure and blood sugar since the 8th day, posing a health burden.
Park Chan-dae, floor leader of the Democratic Party, emphasized at the party's countermeasure meeting that "Today marks the 22nd day since the final argument in the impeachment trial of the traitor Yoon Seok-yeol," and added, "We must restore the dignity of South Korea's democracy through Yoon Seok-yeol's dismissal. The Constitutional Court should promptly deliver its verdict."
