Elderly Pedestrian in His 80s Fatally Struck by Car While Walking on Road in Changwon at Midnight

In the middle of the night in Changwon, Gyeongnam, an elderly man in his 80s who was walking on the road was struck from behind by a car and died.

According to the Masan Dongbu Police Station on the 18th, at around 11:14 p.m. the previous night, a passenger car traveling in the first lane of the two-lane one-way Seongam-ro in Masanhoewon-gu, Changwon, hit Mr. A, a man in his 80s who was walking ahead.

As a result of the accident, Mr. A was transported to the hospital in cardiac arrest but ultimately passed away.

At the time of the accident, the vehicle was heading from the roundabout near Changwon Prison toward the Hapseong-dong 2nd Geumgangsan Intersection, and Mr. A was walking in the same direction as the traffic in the first lane.

The road where the accident occurred has a median barrier, making it impossible to cross to the opposite side, and is a sharp curve section without a sidewalk.

Even in the early morning or midday, people are often seen walking along the road to and from nearby vegetable gardens, making this area known for its risk of accidents.

In the police investigation, the driver, Mr. B, in his 40s, was found not to be under the influence of alcohol or driving without a license at the time of the accident, and stated that he did not see Mr. A in time.

The police are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident by analyzing the vehicle's black box footage and interviewing witnesses.
