"Solving Real Estate Concerns"... Gangdong-gu Offers Free Legal Consultation

Gangdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Soo-hee) operates the 'Real Estate Legal Consultation Program' twice a month to protect residents' property rights and strengthen housing stability.

The 'Real Estate Legal Consultation Program' is designed for residents experiencing legal difficulties related to real estate sales and lease contracts. Experts such as lawyers with extensive legal knowledge and practical experience provide direct consultation support.

Although there are consultation centers operated by law offices or the Seoul Metropolitan Government, many residents hesitate to seek consultation due to accessibility issues. Since 2022, the district has been running this consultation program to enable residents to receive legal support more easily and conveniently.

The consultation covers various real estate issues closely related to residents' daily lives, including damages from jeonse fraud, disputes related to sales contracts, return of deposit payments, conflicts in housing leases, return of jeonse deposits, and requests for contract renewal.

Up to last year, a total of 237 residents received consultations. The main consultation cases included 30 cases related to real estate contracts and transactions such as gifts and inheritance, 203 cases related to housing lease issues such as deposit returns and jeonse fraud damages, and 4 cases of other consultations such as auctions. Additionally, in a satisfaction survey conducted after the consultations, 93% of visitors who came due to real estate disputes such as housing leases expressed high satisfaction.

Consultations are conducted by appointment only and take place at the Gangdong-gu Office consultation room from 2 PM to 4 PM on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month. The consultation service is completely free of charge.

Appointments can be made by visiting or calling the Gangdong-gu Office Real Estate Information Division, and applications can also be submitted through the district office website (under General Civil Complaints > Consultation Report Center > Consultation Support > Real Estate Legal Consultation Reservation).

Lee Dong-min, Director of the Real Estate Information Division of Gangdong-gu, said, “We hope that through the Real Estate Legal Consultation Program, residents can resolve legal issues without economic burden,” and added, “We will continue to actively promote policies that provide practical help in residents’ daily lives.”
