Children's Series
The Second Work of the Season Repertoire 'Yangpyeong Gonggam'

Gyeonggi Yangpyeong Cultural Foundation (Chairman Park Shin-seon) announced on the 18th that it will present the second work of the season repertoire ‘Yangpyeong Gonggam,’ the theater company Hatangse’s 'Wait at Whale Rock,' on April 12th at Theater Yangpyeong on the 2nd floor of the Yangpyeong Cultural Foundation.

This performance was selected through the ‘Performing Arts Regional Distribution Support Project’ contest, sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and hosted by the Arts Management Support Center Foundation. The ‘Performing Arts Regional Distribution Support Project’ is a contest aimed at resolving the imbalance of the performance market concentrated in Seoul and revitalizing the regional performance market. Through this contest, the Yangpyeong Cultural Foundation secured about 50 million KRW in national funding by attracting two excellent performances: ▲Hatangse’s 'Wait at Whale Rock' ▲Ipgwa Son Studio’s Pansori 'Long Long Night.'

'Wait at Whale Rock' tells the story unfolding inside the imagined whale’s belly by ‘Bada,’ who is waiting for her father at Whale Rock in a quiet seaside village. In particular, it features ‘black light’ and a ‘lying play’ style where actors perform lying on the floor, offering audiences a unique direction. This work has won awards such as the Grand Prize at the 2024 Seoul ASSITEJ Winter Festival Seoul Children’s Theater Awards and the Best Acting Award at the 2023 Gimcheon International Theater Festival. It has also been invited to perform overseas at the ‘Skirball Culture Center’ in Los Angeles, USA, and participated in the ‘Edinburgh Fringe Festival’ in the UK.

Park Shin-seon, chairman of the Yangpyeong Cultural Foundation, said, “Although the season repertoire Yangpyeong Gonggam, which has been free until now, will inevitably be held as a paid performance due to the selection conditions of the Arts Management Support Center contest, I hope this performance will serve as an opportunity for the continuous growth of Yangpyeong’s performance culture and the activation of a healthy performance market.”

The performance will be held on April 12th at 1:00 PM and 3:30 PM at Theater Yangpyeong on the 2nd floor of the Yangpyeong Cultural Foundation. The total duration is 90 minutes, consisting of 45 minutes of performance and 45 minutes of experience. The ticket price for this performance is 10,000 KRW, and Yangpyeong residents can book tickets at a 50% local discount. Children aged 36 months and older can attend, and preschool children must be accompanied by a guardian. Reservations are available from March 13th to April 11th through Interpark.
