The smart road heating system automatically generates heat upon detecting snowfall. There are a total of 58 road heating installations in Seongbuk-gu, with a combined length of 16,386 meters, making it the longest among Seoul's autonomous districts.

Seongbuk-gu's terrain is hilly, which made travel difficult for residents and raised safety concerns during heavy snowfalls. To alleviate residents' inconvenience and ensure safety, the district actively installed road heating systems during the 7th and 8th local government administrations.

Since the implementation of the road heating system, there has been a noticeable reduction in traffic congestion and accident rates caused by heavy snow. According to the district office, delivery workers often express their gratitude when Mayor Lee Seung-ro visits the site. The system not only ensures the safety of delivery drivers who must complete deliveries even in snowy conditions but also maintains trust with customers.

Ahead of the heavy snow warning on the 18th, all public officials in Seongbuk-gu entered an emergency duty system starting from the 17th to ensure thorough preparation, allowing residents to clearly feel the effects of the road heating system.”
