Yangpyeong-gun, Website Overhaul "Report Corruption Anonymously When Discovered"

Yangpyeong-gun, Gyeonggi Province (Governor Jeon Jin-seon) announced on the 18th that it will reorganize and operate an anonymous reporting system where public officials can anonymously report acts of corruption and other misconduct.

Generally, various reports including public interest and corruption reports require the reporter to disclose their identity and submit a report with specific evidence, so many hesitate to report due to concerns about exposure and disadvantages.

However, the ‘Anonymous Reporting of Public Official Corruption’ can be easily used by any resident through the Yangpyeong-gun website’s Integrated Corruption Prevention Reporting Center, allowing reports not only on public official corruption such as bribery, entertainment, improper solicitation, and budget waste but also violations of public officials’ service regulations without revealing their identity.

Additionally, Yangpyeong-gun operates an internal reporting system for public officials called ‘Helpline,’ but participation from internal staff has been low due to perceptions that anonymity is not guaranteed and insufficient promotion. Therefore, the system’s name will be changed to ‘Anonymous Reporting of Public Official Corruption,’ and active promotion to employees will be conducted to encourage internal reporting and foster a transparent public service culture.

Governor Jeon Jin-seon of Yangpyeong-gun emphasized, “We will apply a zero-tolerance policy toward corrupt public officials and strengthen prevention-focused guidance and audits. We will consider abuse of authority for improper gain, unfair and non-transparent handling of official duties, complacency, and evasion of responsibility as corruption, and will set stricter standards of conduct for public officials while enhancing corruption prevention functions.”
