Siheung City in Gyeonggi Province plans to create 28,000 jobs this year through 542 job projects.

Siheung City "Creating 28,000 Jobs Through 542 Projects This Year"

This announcement follows the "Local Job Disclosure System" stipulated by the Framework Act on Employment Policy. The Local Job Disclosure System requires local government heads to establish and disclose job creation goals and measures, and to comprehensively evaluate the results and efforts the following year.

The city will implement 542 job projects linked to the "Siheung City Comprehensive Job Plan for the 8th Elected Term (2023?2026)." The core strategies include ▲ revitalizing employment in industrial complexes ▲ attracting future industries and creating ecosystems ▲ creating quality jobs by strengthening corporate competitiveness ▲ expanding jobs for vulnerable groups. Through these efforts, the city aims to create 28,000 jobs.

The job creation projects are divided by sector as follows: ▲ direct jobs 285 projects (8,318 people) ▲ vocational skill development training 14 projects (880 people) ▲ employment services 8 projects (11,202 people) ▲ employment incentives 4 projects (360 people) ▲ startup support 5 projects (225 people) ▲ others 226 projects (7,015 people).

In particular, as a new project, the city will promote the "Siheung Youth Engineer Development Project" with the Gyeonggi-do Job Foundation to nurture young talent lacking in the Siheung Smart Hub. This project supports specialized high school students to combine work and study at companies and universities.

This year, the city will also carry out the "Youth Challenge Support Project" to help young people who have given up job searching enter economic activities. In cooperation with Gyeonggi Province, the city plans to operate the "Future Technology School" to cultivate specialized talent needed for future growth industries such as artificial intelligence (AI) and biotechnology.

Previously, the city achieved job creation results of 32,062 people in 2023 and 32,442 people last year. These figures are 9% and 15% higher, respectively, than the goals set for the 8th elected term in 2022.

Im Byeong-taek, mayor of Siheung City, said, "In difficult economic conditions, job creation is the best welfare," and added, "We will do our utmost to create future and innovative jobs and to restore the livelihood economy."
