Athletics Track: Four 400m Lanes and a 100m Straight Track

Songpa-gu (District Mayor Seo Gang-seok) has created a park golf course and an athletics track at Jamsil Retention Basin and held an opening ceremony on the 17th.
The facilities were built in the sports facility area of Jamsil Retention Basin. It was a site that had long been left unused as an empty lot. Accordingly, the district planned to create a park golf course that residents wanted and continuously reflected residents' opinions from site review in 2023 through design to completion. Until now, Songpa-gu residents had to travel to places like Yangpyeong in Gyeonggi-do and Hwacheon in Gangwon-do to enjoy park golf.
The park golf course was created on a 10,000㎡ site with 9 holes, 33 strokes, and a total length of 526m. Artificial turf was used to maintain water retention functions while making maintenance easy and allowing year-round use.
The difference from other park golf courses is that it was designed to allow various ways to enjoy the game. This reflects the opinions of residents who will actually use it.
First, all 9 holes have different course lengths and shapes. The shortest course is 40m, and the longest course is 115m. It also includes a dogleg course with a curved hole shape, which is of intermediate to advanced difficulty. Additionally, each green has 2 hole cups, so even with 9 holes, it offers the effect of 18 holes. There is also a 5-station putting practice area and resting spaces.
Considering the running craze, an athletics track was also created. The track is located around the outer perimeter of the park golf course, covering 2,300㎡, and includes four 400m lanes and a 100m straight track. It can be used for interval training, jogging, and marathon preparation. Elastic pavement material, which is good for shock absorption, was used to reduce injury risk, making it suitable for beginners to advanced users.
Both the park golf course and athletics track are available for use by all Songpa-gu residents. The park golf course will be available from April 1, and reservations can be made online starting March 20 through the ‘Seoul Public Service Reservation Site’. The fee is 2,000 KRW per hour (1,000 KRW for those aged 65 and over). The athletics track can be used free of charge without reservation.
The athletics track is already becoming a recommended course for running enthusiasts. Reviews from track users can be easily found on social media (SNS), blogs, and more. It has received positive feedback such as “A fresh idea where the athletics track meets the park golf course” and “An optimal place for light training.”
Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, stated, “This facility is a model case of ‘servant administration’ created by the valuable voices and creative ideas of residents,” and added, “We will strive to manage and support this place so that people of various ages, from young to elderly, can live healthy and happy daily lives through community sports.”
