Yangsan City in Gyeongnam is set to fully implement the Gyeongnam-type Community Integrated Care program from April, supporting those in need of care to maintain a healthy life within the community.

To this end, the city has been consistently carrying out activities to discover local resources for housing support for care recipients as part of building an integrated care system and infrastructure in the community.

Case subject Mr. A, residing in Mulgeum-eup, had been living with household waste and garbage left unattended in his home for a long time, resulting in health issues and complaints about odors from neighbors, yet had been unable to resolve the situation.

After identifying the problem through an integrated case manager, Yangsan City, with the help of members of the Mulgeum-eup Community Security Council (civilian chairperson Kim Sangjun), carried out a thorough cleaning of the house on the 16th. In addition, Yangsan Daham Volunteer Group (president Park Seonggwan), which is skilled in home repair and was connected through the Yangsan City Volunteer Center, participated to complete wallpapering, flooring, and repair of the damaged sink.

If it were not for the support provided by local volunteer organizations and neighbors, Mr. A would have had to leave his home due to worsening health caused by unsanitary living conditions and be hospitalized.

In this way, Yangsan City is preparing community integrated care, which links necessary services such as housing, health care, nursing, care, and welfare (daily life) in an integrated manner, so that residents in need of care can receive services tailored to their individual needs and live healthily together with their neighbors in the place where they have always lived.

In particular, the city expects that the housing environment improvement project will be of great help to vulnerable households with limited mobility, those suspected of hoarding disorder, and reclusive and isolated families.

An official from Yangsan City said, "We deeply thank the members of Yangsan Daham Volunteer Group and the Mulgeum-eup Community Security Council who delivered warm neighborly love with all their heart and soul even on a rainy weekend. Our city is always grateful that the community takes the lead in reaching out to neighbors in need. We will do our utmost to discover and support families in welfare crisis and make Yangsan a welfare city where all citizens come together."
