Busan City to Support Installation and Improvement Costs for Emotional Laborers' Rest Areas

New Installation and Renovation of Rest Areas at 10 Workplaces in Busan
"Up to 5 Million Won for Purchase and Installation of Air Conditioning and Heating Equipment in Rest Areas"

A project to support rest areas for so-called "emotional laborers" who interact directly with consumers is being carried out in Busan.

The city of Busan (Mayor Park Heongjoon) announced on the 17th that it will promote the 2025 Emotional Laborer Work Environment Improvement Support Project to protect the health rights of emotional laborers and reduce the burden on small business owners.

This project, which has been carried out annually in accordance with the "Busan Emotional Laborer Rights Protection Basic Plan" established in August 2022, aims to establish a protection system for emotional laborers and support both workers and companies to coexist in a good environment.

Emotional laborers are defined as those who provide goods or services by directly interacting with customers, patients, or passengers, or through information and communication networks.

This includes telephone counselors, telemarketers, bus and taxi drivers, apartment security guards and cleaners, supermarket and restaurant workers, caregivers, and kindergarten and daycare teachers.

This year, Busan will provide up to 5 million won in support for the new installation or renovation (wallpapering, flooring, shower facilities, restrooms, nursing rooms, etc.) of rest areas and the purchase and installation of air conditioning and heating equipment in rest areas at workplaces in the Busan area employing emotional laborers.

Support will be provided to approximately 10 workplaces, and each workplace must bear at least 10% of the total cost. Workplaces wishing to participate can apply online through the local subsidy management system "Botaemi(e)" from the 17th to March 31st.

Further details about the project can be found on the local subsidy management system or in the city's official notices and announcements.

Kim Bongcheol, Director of the Digital Economy Office of Busan, said, "We hope for much interest in this project, which supports the costs of installing and improving rest areas to alleviate mental stress and protect the health rights of emotional laborers."
