Operation of Facilities at Icheon, Cheongju, and Gwangju Plants
Annual Carbon Emissions Reduced by Approximately 2,800 Tons
OB Beer announced on the 17th that it has completed the construction of solar power generation facilities at its production plants in Icheon, Cheongju, and Gwangju to expand the use of renewable energy.
OB Beer explained that it is participating in 'RE100' (Renewable Energy 100%), a campaign where companies cover their electricity consumption with renewable energy, to respond to climate change.
Previously, OB Beer installed 3.7 megawatts (MW) of solar panels for the first time at its Gwangju plant in 2023, and then installed solar panels at its Cheongju and Icheon plants as well. An OB Beer official stated, "We have become the first alcoholic beverage company in Korea to manufacture beer using renewable energy generated by solar power," adding, "When the solar power generation systems at all three plants are fully operational, we can reduce carbon emissions by 2,800 tons annually."
OB Beer plans to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040 by further introducing renewable energy facilities.
Bae Hajun, CEO of OB Beer, said, "The construction of solar power generation facilities at the three production plants is an important indicator that OB Beer's eco-friendly management strategy is not just a slogan but is leading to tangible actions," and added, "We will strive even harder to introduce sustainable energy throughout the entire beer production process."
