Despite challenging financial conditions, Buk-gu in Gwangju has rolled up its sleeves to secure local tax revenue.

Buk-gu announced on the 17th that it will operate an "On-site Property Tax Investigation Team" and promote a "Customized Local Tax Guidance Service for Newly Established Corporations" this year. This measure comes in response to worsening revenue conditions caused by the reduction of government grants and a declining population.

Property tax accounts for the largest portion of local taxes in Buk-gu. Accordingly, Buk-gu will focus on-site investigations on illegally altered land, unauthorized buildings, and buildings occupied before approval, levying property taxes according to actual usage. Last year, such investigations secured approximately 77 million KRW in additional tax revenue.

This year, the district will further strengthen data sharing and joint investigations between departments such as agriculture, land, and construction. The plan is to actively uncover hidden property taxes and secure more revenue. In addition, a new customized local tax guidance service for newly established corporations will be launched. This service aims to assist corporations with tax filing and payment, prevent omissions and delinquencies, and reduce both corporate disadvantages and gaps in district tax revenue.

Buk-gu plans to regularly send notices containing tailored information such as payment schedules for each tax item and local tax reductions to newly established corporations. If necessary, telephone or in-person consultations will also be provided. Furthermore, until the end of March, Buk-gu will simultaneously send payment reminders and installment payment guidance to 18,130 delinquent taxpayers and operate a task force to secure non-tax revenue as well.

Mayor Moon In said, "We will make every effort to collect local taxes to overcome the difficult financial situation," and added, "We will prepare various measures to secure tax revenue and enhance fiscal soundness."
