Pro-Impeachment Group for Yoon Declares 2nd Emergency Action: "Can't Wait Another Day for Dismissal"

Ahead of the impeachment trial verdict for President Yoon Suk-yeol, rallies by groups supporting impeachment continued around Gwanghwamun in Seoul on the 16th.

The "Emergency Action for Immediate Resignation of Yoon Suk-yeol and Social Reform," composed of progressive civic groups, held a press conference in front of the West Octagonal Pavilion at Gwanghwamun to announce the "2nd Emergency Concentrated Action," urging the dismissal of President Yoon.

The group emphasized, "We cannot wait even a day or an hour longer," and stated, "We must dismiss Yoon Suk-yeol immediately and talk about a new world." They also announced plans to declare the 19th as "Democracy Protection Day." Along with the declaration on the day, they plan to encourage public participation through activities such as "taking a day off and coming to Gwanghwamun" and "fasting for one meal and posting a certification photo."

Centered around the sit-in site of the Emergency Action co-chairpersons who have been fasting for nine days, about 30 tents and 10 smaller tents were set up between the West Octagonal Pavilion and the main gate. Re-elected members of the Democratic Party of Korea, including Kim Han-kyu, Ko Min-jung, Kang Jun-hyun, Moon Jung-bok, and Kim Ju-young, also participated holding placards.

The Emergency Action plans to march along a route that goes from the large-scale rally at the East Octagonal Pavilion in Gwanghwamun, passes through Sungnyemun, and returns.
