CJ CheilJedang, Incheon City, and Incheon National University Collaborate on 'Kim Yuksang Aquaculture' Research

Industrialization and Seed Development of Gim Land-Based Aquaculture
Strengthening Collaboration with Local Governments and Academia, Ongoing Demonstration Research

CJ CheilJedang announced on the 16th that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the development of marine and fisheries research in the Incheon region with Incheon City (Incheon Fisheries Resources Research Institute) and Incheon National University.

The signing ceremony took place on the 14th at Incheon National University, attended by key figures including Rajesh Fortineni, Head of Global Science & Technology Research at CJ CheilJedang (Business Leader), Hwang Hyo-jin, Deputy Mayor for Global City Affairs of Incheon City, and Park Jong-tae, President of Incheon National University.


CJ CheilJedang, Incheon City, and Incheon National University plan to conduct joint research on Gim land-based aquaculture industrialization and the development and practical application of Gim seeds. Additionally, they will participate in a consortium for the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries’ Gim land-based aquaculture public project. Currently, the consortium also includes Jeollanam-do Province and Haenam County.


Through this MOU, CJ CheilJedang intends to continue collaboration with local governments and academia. The company is also pursuing an MOU with Jeju Island. Last month, it signed an agreement related to Gim land-based aquaculture with Jeollanam-do Province and Haenam County. CJ CheilJedang is researching ways to repurpose land-based aquaculture farms in Jeju Island that have ceased operations into new facilities for Gim land-based aquaculture.


CJ CheilJedang was the first in the industry to start developing Gim land-based aquaculture technology in 2018, succeeded in tank cultivation in 2021, and the following year secured the first dedicated variety suitable for land-based aquaculture in Korea. Furthermore, CJ CheilJedang possesses differentiated Gim land-based aquaculture technology, having developed and advanced technology capable of producing Gim of uniform quality year-round.
