Gyeonggi Special Judicial Police Conduct Intensive Investigation on Illegal Activities at Unregistered Beauty Salons

Gyeonggi Province will launch an investigation into illegal public hygiene practices at beauty salons.

The Gyeonggi Province Special Judicial Police announced on the 16th that from the 17th to the 28th of this month, they will conduct a focused investigation into illegal public hygiene activities targeting 150 beauty salons across 12 cities and counties, including Goyang and Bucheon.

This measure comes in response to the recent surge of illegal procedures at unregistered beauty salons, such as eyelash extensions and perms, makeup, nails, and skincare, primarily concentrated in densely populated commercial areas of large cities within the province, such as officetels and one-room apartments.

Additionally, those who establish or work in a beauty business without a beautician license are subject to a fine of up to 3 million KRW.

The 'Medical Service Act' stipulates that performing medical practices without a medical license is punishable by imprisonment of up to five years or a fine of up to 50 million KRW.

Gi Do, head of the Gyeonggi Province Special Judicial Police, stated, "Through focused investigations into illegal activities at unregistered beauty salons, we will strive to promote the health of residents and strengthen public hygiene management," adding, "We will strictly punish illegal acts that threaten the safety and health of residents in accordance with relevant laws and regulations."
