According to Yonhap News on the 16th, Judge Kim Saetbyeol of the Incheon District Court Criminal Division 11 recently sentenced A (30), who was charged with special injury and special threats, to 1 year and 2 months in prison with a 3-year suspension, and ordered 80 hours of community service.

The deliberate accident caused by A during retaliatory driving occurred in June of last year. Around 6:10 p.m., during rush hour, while driving an EV9 passenger car on a road in Namdong-gu, Incheon, A lost his temper and engaged in retaliatory driving after B (45, female), who was driving a Venue passenger car, attempted to cut in.

A persistently chased B’s car, repeatedly turning the high beams on and off. Furthermore, he crossed the center line to overtake B’s vehicle and deliberately caused an accident, injuring B.

B suffered a neck injury from the accident and was diagnosed with a three-week recovery period at the hospital. The vehicle repair costs amounted to 1.2 million won.

Two months after this incident, A committed domestic violence. He threatened his wife, who was recording their argument, by holding a hammer and demanding she give him her phone password.

Judge Kim stated, "Considering the circumstances and severity of the two crimes, the case is not minor," adding, "The defendant has not compensated for the harm caused to his wife, who also petitioned for a severe punishment against him." Regarding the suspended sentence, the judge said, "The defendant has admitted his wrongdoing and is reflecting on his actions," and "considered that he has no prior record of imprisonment."
