The city improved the disconnected park environment by demolishing the long-abandoned unused military bunker facilities and the surrounding fences. Through this, Hoeryong Stream and Jikdong Park were connected as one, and a spacious plaza and resting area were created to allow citizens to use the park more conveniently and safely.

The entrance plaza applied a nature-friendly design, providing ▲a lawn yard ▲a viewing plaza ▲benches and sitting wall resting areas so that citizens can stay and relax.

In addition, various trees such as Golden Goldenrain Tree, Golden Euonymus, and Blue Angel were planted to create a green landscape, and the city flower, Trumpet Creeper (Neungsowha), was planted to offer a familiar green space to the citizens. Especially, the Trumpet Creeper harmonizes as a landscape element of the park, naturally informing citizens of the beauty of the city flower.

Furthermore, various types of lighting were installed on the stairs and plaza spaces to enable safe and comfortable park use even during evening hours.

About 200 people, including Mayor Kim Dong-geun, provincial council members, city council members, and local residents, attended the opening ceremony that day. The event included congratulatory performances, ribbon cutting, commemorative photos, and tea meetings with citizens, creating a meaningful time together with the citizens.

Mayor Kim Dong-geun said, “The opening of the Jikdong Neighborhood Park Entrance Plaza is an important turning point connecting the park space that was disconnected by military facilities as one.” He added, “We will continue to organically link parks, green spaces, and river spaces to create ‘Garden City Uijeongbu,’ where citizens can walk, stay, and enjoy nature.”
