Strong Criticism of Lee's Rightward Shift
Calls for Self-Reflection Within the Ruling Party
Former People Power Party lawmaker Yoo Seung-min fiercely criticized Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, for his rightward shift, calling him "a thief who recklessly breaks into someone else's master bedroom just because the house is empty and steals this and that."
On the 15th, Yoo posted on Facebook, "'Centrist conservative appeal' Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party, appeared on a conservative channel," and made this statement. He added, "(Lee claims) 'I'm not a burglar. I didn't go to rob an empty house, but I went in because it was empty,'" emphasizing again, "We must stop thieves who recklessly break into someone else's master bedroom just because the house is empty and steal things."
He also criticized President Yoon Suk-yeol and the ruling party. Saying, "It's also a problem for the person who left the house with the front door open," he questioned, "What big things can someone who can't even protect their own house do?" He then stated, "We need to stop the burglary and devise a strategy to win in the central region."
This is interpreted as criticism of Lee Jae-myung's recent rightward moves, such as appearing on Channel A's YouTube program 'Political Signal Night' and having a dialogue with Jung Kyu-je, a former conservative journalist. It not only targets Lee directly but also calls for self-reflection within the ruling party.
In the broadcast, Lee pointed out the People Power Party's rightward trend, saying, "Because they abandoned the conservative domain, reality turned out this way," and added, "Yoo says he was burglarized, but we did not rob an empty house. We haven't robbed it yet." He continued, "The so-called central, centrist area is the battleground, but the People Power Party left this area and went to the mountains. They created a no-man's land and abandoned the conservative domain."
Earlier, Yoo harshly criticized Lee, who claimed "the Democratic Party is centrist conservative," saying, "It feels like they are digging up the family register, and I thought former President Roh Moo-hyun would jump up," and added, "Lee and the Democratic Party have been pseudo-progressives from the start." He also said, "The People Power Party has the responsibility to protect the center," and stated, "Because the houses of the right wing are empty, with rallies in Gwanghwamun and Yeouido and pastors attending rallies, these people come and burglarize the empty houses."
