The "Visiting Medical Bus" is set to operate for residents of rural areas in Taean, Chungnam, where medical facilities are scarce.
Taean County announced on the 14th that it will implement the "2025 Rural Visiting Medical Bus" project six times from March to September, with the first round of medical services having started on the 13th in the conference room of the main branch of the Nam-myeon Agricultural Cooperative Mart.
The Rural Visiting Medical Bus project is a public contest initiative led by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. In collaboration with local agricultural cooperatives, it provides comprehensive medical services to residents living in rural areas with insufficient medical facilities.
The county was selected for the project last December and secured a budget of 216 million KRW for this year. The National Agricultural Cooperative Federation will operate the program, offering medical checkups to seniors, vulnerable groups, and farmers.
Medical staff from Daejeon University Korean Medicine Hospital travel to the sites on the bus, offering a variety of treatments including Korean medicine, dental care, oral examinations, and optometry. Disease management and prevention education are also provided. External companies such as IOBio Co., Ltd. (oral examination) and Idea Optician (optometry) are also participating.
On the 13th, about 300 residents visited the Nam-myeon Visiting Medical Bus, resulting in a great turnout. Users commented, "The equipment is well-prepared, and the medical staff in each field are kind, so my health has improved a lot," and "I am satisfied because I can receive treatment close to home without having to travel far."
The Rural Visiting Medical Bus project will be conducted for residents of all towns and villages in Taean County. The upcoming schedule is as follows: Sowon-myeon on April 3, Wonbuk-myeon and Iwon-myeon on July 15, Taean-eup on July 22, Geunheung-myeon on August 28, and Anmyeon-eup and Gonam-myeon on September 18.
The county plans to maximize satisfaction among residents, including farmers, by selecting medical services tailored to the characteristics of each community and actively promoting the project to encourage greater participation for its successful operation.
A county official said, "Due to the long north-south geography of Taean County, there are frequent inconveniences for seniors and vulnerable groups living far away, so there is a great need for mobile services. We will make multifaceted efforts to maximize satisfaction among farmers and residents with this Visiting Medical Bus project."
