Until the 30th at Hosim Art Museum
Gwangju University (President Kim Dongjin) announced on the 14th that it will hold the exhibition "What the heck!" by the artist Sajin Kang (Sadalla).
The exhibition, held at the Hosim Art Museum on the first floor of the Gwangju University Theater Hall, marks the artist's fifth solo show. The artist projects the fundamental psychology of human nature onto chairs. In the previous exhibition, "Respect Others Body," the artist presented a piece featuring a woman seated on a chair, emphasizing reverence for the human body.
This exhibition, running until the 30th, is themed "Praise the Chair." It features nine pieces from a series of chairs the artist personally refurbished from the trash, a video of the production process, five large-scale works, and other flat works. The artist explained that through chairs found in the trash, they contemplated the chair to sit on, the chair imbued with parental desire, and the chair possessing the nature of power. By dressing, painting, caressing, and breathing new life into the chairs, the artist came to cherish and praise them.
Choi Junho, director of Hosim Art Museum, said, "Sadalla approaches and interprets chairs with a uniquely Korean K-sensibility, different from Cezanne, Hockney, and Mendini," adding, "This time, by breathing life into the chairs and calling for us to 'praise the chair,' the artist continues to work on communicating between human and object."
