Hampyeong County in Jeonnam announced on the 14th that it will implement the "2025 Support Project for Installing Emission Reduction Devices on Old Diesel Vehicles" to reduce air pollutants.
This year, the county plans to allocate a budget of approximately 46 million KRW to support 90% of the installation cost (up to 6.49 million KRW) for emission reduction devices on 14 old diesel vehicles. Vehicle owners who receive the subsidy will be exempt from the environmental improvement charge for three years. However, they are required to operate the vehicle for at least two years from the date of device installation.
Eligible vehicles are grade 5 diesel vehicles registered in Hampyeong County that have not previously installed emission reduction devices or been converted to low-emission engines with government support. The vehicle owner must also meet related requirements, such as having no overdue national or local taxes, environmental improvement charges, or other penalties. Even if all requirements are met, installation may not be possible if corrosion or other issues are found on the vehicle’s underside during inspection, so applicants should pay special attention.
The county will select recipients based on priority factors such as whether the vehicle is used for livelihood, business, or subject to seasonal operation restrictions, as well as weight and manufacturing date. Applications can be submitted until the 4th of next month at town offices or through the automobile emissions website. For more details, refer to the notices section on the Hampyeong County Office website or contact the Climate Response Team of the Environmental Management Division.
County Governor Lee Sangik said, "Overcoming the climate crisis requires the interest and effort of every individual, so I encourage many to apply," adding, "We will continue to provide support in various ways to build a sustainable Hampyeong County."
