The number of school violence cases in the Jeonnam region has decreased by 11.59% compared to the previous year.
According to the Jeonnam Office of Education on the 14th, an analysis of the '2024 School Violence Status' showed that the number of school violence cases dropped from 2,717 in 2023 to 2,402 in 2024, a reduction of 315 cases (11.59%).
The Office of Education has made various efforts to prevent and respond to school violence, and particularly evaluated that the establishment and revision of the 'Educational Community School Life Regulations'?a pledge project and the first of its kind nationwide?helped create a school culture rooted in rules and order.
For middle school students, who have the highest rate of school violence, the Jeonnam Student Education Center collaborated to provide an '8-hour Peace Sensitivity Education' at the beginning of the semester in 351 classes. In addition, a class harmony program was supported in 1,630 classes to foster a culture of respect within classrooms.
The School Violence Prevention Education Support Group (24 members) is also being operated to provide systematic education, along with proactive prevention activities such as on-site cyberbullying prevention education and school violence prevention performances. Practical support measures, such as an all-day care program, have been implemented to provide emotional stability for students in need of special attention.
Cooperation with the local community is also being strengthened. The 'Mam-Pum Support Group' is operated to promote school violence prevention activities in partnership with parents. In addition, semi-annual consultative meetings are held with the Jeonnam Autonomous Police Committee, and joint meetings with the police agency and related organizations have established a collaborative response system.
Other activities to enhance the effectiveness of school violence prevention include: ▲EBS school violence prevention diagnostic tests ▲operation of school violence prevention film production clubs ▲production and distribution of restorative dialogue meeting manuals and leaflets, among various initiatives.
Kim Hobum, Director of Student Life Education, stated, "Aiming for the complete eradication of school violence, we will continue to develop various programs and policies, further strengthen cooperation with the local community, and do our utmost to ensure students can learn in a safer and healthier environment."
