Seventeen professors from National Pukyong University (President Bae Sanghoon) have been selected for the 2025 Individual Basic Research Program by the Ministry of Science and ICT.

The Individual Basic Research Program of the Ministry of Science and ICT is a project that supports individual research tailored to the characteristics of each academic field, fostering creative basic research capabilities and encouraging the deepening and advancement of research.

For this year's program, National Pukyong University had 17 professors selected: 3 for Mid-Career Research (Type 1), 1 for Mid-Career Research (Global Type), 2 for Mid-Career Research (Leap Type), 10 for Excellent Young Researchers, and 1 for Sejong Science Fellowship (Domestic Track). Each will receive annual research funding ranging from 100 million to 320 million KRW for 1 to 5 years starting from March.

For Mid-Career Research (Type 1), the selected projects are: Professor Shin Hyunho (Aquaculture Applied Life Science) for 'Exploring Useful Substances Produced by Red and Green Tide-Causing Microalgae and Securing Biomass Using Their Growth Potential,' Professor Kim Youngmok (Food Engineering) for 'Development of Eco-Friendly Microbial Control and Industrial Application Technology Using Marine Microorganism-Derived Bio-Surfactants,' and Professor Kim Sangdan (Environmental Engineering) for 'Probabilistic Methods for Monitoring the Impact of Drought on River Water Quality and Watershed Vegetation.'

For Mid-Career Research (Global Type), Professor Kim Baekmin (Environmental Atmospheric Science) was selected for 'Global Collaborative Research on the Role of Marine Spray in Typhoon Rapid Intensification.' For Mid-Career Research (Leap Type), Professor Jung Wongyo (Biomedical Engineering) was selected for 'Identification of Key Metabolites in Shell Substrate Formation and Research on Hierarchically Structured Bone Tissue Regeneration Scaffolds Mimicking Shell Substrate,' and Professor Hwang Geontae (Materials Engineering) for 'Development of an Integrated Energy System to Overcome Harsh Environments Based on Carbon-Free Magneto-Mechano-Electric Conversion and High Entropy.'

For Excellent Young Researchers, the selected professors are: Boo Kahoon (Resource Biological Engineering), Kim Taehui (Marine Bionics Convergence Technology Center), Lee Eunbi (Fisheries Life Medicine), Park Minjae (Architectural Engineering), Hyun Jaeyeop (Mechanical Engineering), Kim Jongchan (Civil Engineering), Kwon Youngman (Civil Engineering), Lee Jaewook (Information and Communication Engineering), Yoon Sangseok (Information and Communication Engineering), and Jung Yoonje (Industrial and Management Engineering). For the Sejong Science Fellowship (Domestic Track), Choi Jaehong, a contract professor (Specialized University Support Project for Secondary Battery Characteristics), was selected.
