IIHS: "The Best Choice for Consumers Seeking Family Safety"
Hyundai Motor Group announced on the 14th that a total of 12 models were selected in the crash evaluation announced by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) in the United States on the 13th (local time), including 11 models with the 'Top Safety Pick Plus (TSP+)' rating and 1 model with the 'Top Safety Pick (TSP)' rating.
This is the highest number selected among global automotive groups, with Hyundai and Kia ranking 2nd and 7th overall by brand, and Genesis ranking 1st among luxury brands.
The TSP+ rating includes ▲Ioniq 5 ▲Ioniq 6 ▲Kona ▲Tucson ▲Santa Fe from Hyundai with 5 models, ▲GV60 ▲GV70 ▲GV70 Electrified model ▲GV80 from Genesis with 4 models, and ▲EV9 ▲Telluride from Kia with 2 models, while the Genesis G90 was selected for the TSP rating.
Hyundai Tucson and Genesis GV70 and GV80 have been awarded TSP+ for five consecutive years since 2021, and Kia Telluride has proven its outstanding safety by being selected for TSP+ or TSP for seven consecutive years since its first launch in the North American market in 2019.
The company explained that this achievement is meaningful as it was accomplished in a situation where the overall number of models selected for TSP+ or TSP significantly decreased from 71 last year to 48 this year due to strengthened safety evaluation criteria for rear seat passengers.
IIHS supplemented its evaluation method by adding dummies (human models) representing a small-sized female or a 12-year-old child in the rear seat of the driver during the frontal crash evaluation, reflecting injury types likely to occur to rear seat passengers in actual collision accidents.
David Harkey, IIHS Chairman, stated, "The selected vehicles provide excellent safety not only in the front seats but also in the rear seats," and added, "They will be the best choice for consumers looking for family cars with the highest level of safety."
