Dangjin City in Chungnam Province announced on the 12th that Sinri Holy Ground and Yeongnangsa Temple, both religious and cultural heritage sites in Dangjin, are emerging as new tourist attractions.

Sinri Holy Ground in Dangjin was included in the “Top 100 Domestic Travel Destinations” selected by the SRT in-train magazine “SRT Magazine” to commemorate its 100th issue.

To mark its 100th issue, SRT Magazine published the “Top 100 Themed Domestic Travel Destinations” in its March edition.

This selection was the result of a comprehensive evaluation by journalists who personally visited the regions, taking into account expert opinions, travel convenience, and reader feedback postcards, to carefully choose 100 must-visit travel spots in Korea.

Sinri Holy Ground is where Bishop Daveluy, the fifth bishop of the Joseon Catholic Diocese, spent 21 years before his martyrdom during the Byeongin Persecution, playing a highly significant role in the history of Catholicism in Korea.

Additionally, its exotic buildings and open surrounding scenery resemble those of Jeju Island, earning it the nickname “Jeju of the Inland.” It is also a popular destination featured on social networking services (SNS) as an emotional healing spot and is considered one of Dangjin’s representative tourist attractions.

Yeongnangsa Temple in Dangjin has gained attention as a new temple experience destination, being included in the “Double Happiness Templestay” program promoted by the Cultural Corps of Korean Buddhism from the 7th to the 31st of this month.

The “Double Happiness Templestay” is a discounted temple experience program conducted by the Cultural Corps of Korean Buddhism, in conjunction with the “2025 Spring Travel Campaign” hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and organized by the Korea Tourism Organization.

This event, which offers discounts to around 10,000 participants on a first-come, first-served basis, allows both Koreans and foreigners to join a one-night, two-day temple experience program for 30,000 won, while foreigners can participate in a one-day program for 15,000 won.

Gong Youngsik, head of the Culture and Sports Department, said, “Turning religious and cultural heritage into tourism resources strengthens the region’s cultural identity and presents a new tourism model that blends religion and culture, which will become a driving force for the future tourism industry.”
