Top 10 in 24 Countries Including South Korea
'When Life Gives You Tangerines', starring Lee Jieun and Park Bogum, secured a spot in the top ranks of Netflix's non-English language category in its first week of release. According to the official Netflix website 'Netflix Top 10' on March 12, the series recorded 3.6 million views from March 3 to March 9, ranking fourth in the non-English TV show category, following 'Medusa Season 1' (6.8 million views), 'Just One Look' (4.5 million views), and 'Cassandra' (3.7 million views). It made the 'Top 10' list in 24 countries, including South Korea, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Peru, and Bolivia.
The view count is calculated by dividing the total viewing hours by the overall running time. Netflix introduced this metric to more accurately gauge the popularity of movies, mini-series, and other content with relatively short running times.
'When Life Gives You Tangerines' is a series that depicts the adventurous lives of Aesoon and Gwansik, who were born in Jeju, through the four seasons. It goes beyond a simple romance between a man and a woman, delicately portraying the love and complex emotions between mother and daughter, as well as the struggles of life, resonating with many viewers. The currently released episodes 1 through 4 correspond to spring. Moving forward, four episodes will be released every Friday, for a total of 16 episodes.
Meanwhile, in this week's tally, 'Potato Research Institute', starring Lee Sunbin and Kang Taeo, recorded 1.9 million views, ranking ninth in the non-English TV show category.
