Cultural Exchange Event to Be Held Around the Old Jeonnam Provincial Office on May 30

Gwangju Dong-gu (District Chief Lim Taek) announced on the 12th that it has signed a business agreement with the K-BOOK Promotion Association (CEO Nakazawa Kei) to lay the foundation for literary exchange between Korea and Japan.
Established in 2011, the K-BOOK Promotion Association is an organization actively engaged in introducing Korean books to the Japanese publishing industry and expanding opportunities for translation and publication through events such as the K-BOOK Festival, Japanese Translation Contest, and Korea-Japan Publishing Exchange Meeting.
The two organizations signed the agreement to promote and revitalize exchange of K-literature, which has gained increased attention following author Han Kang's Nobel Prize win. At the signing, they pledged to support various literary exchange events between Korea and Japan and to establish the foundation for the Korean Wave in literature based on Dong-gu's literary resources, publishers, and local bookstores.
The first exchange event based on this agreement will take place on May 30 in the Dong-gu area. A literary tour group consisting of about 70 people?including Korean literature readers in Japan, SNS influencers, and major media journalists?will visit Dong-gu, staying for four days to tour sites such as the old Jeonnam Provincial Office, Sangmugwan, and Jeonil Building, which served as the backdrop for Han Kang's novel "The Boy is Coming."
They will also participate in the "3rd Dong-gu Mudeungsan Humanities Festival" held during the same period, laying the groundwork for Korea-Japan literary exchange.
Starting with this literary tour, Dong-gu plans to sequentially promote literary tour events targeting readers in countries such as Sweden and the United Kingdom, where Korean literature is gaining popularity.
Lim Taek, Chief of Dong-gu, said, "With this business agreement as a starting point, we hope that cultural exchange between Korea and Japan based on K-literature will become more active, and that this will serve as an opportunity for 'Humanities City Gwangju Dong-gu' to take another step forward."
