Kang Hyeongcheol Poet Appointed as New Chairman of the Korean Writers' Association

Kang Hyeong-cheol (70), a poet, has been appointed as the 22nd chairman of the Korean Writers' Association.

The Writers' Association announced on the 11th that Kang was appointed as the new chairman at the 38th regular general meeting held on the 8th. Song Gyeong-dong (58), a poet, was elected as the secretary-general. The terms for both the chairman and secretary-general are three years.


Chairman Kang began his literary career as a member of the 'Minjung Poetry' group in 1985 and the 'May Poetry' group in 1986. He has received the Gosan Literary Award and the Beautiful Writer Award. He has served as vice chairman of the Writers' Association, secretary-general of the Arts and Culture Promotion Agency, and chairman of the Shin Dong-yup Memorial Association.


Secretary-General Song debuted in 2001 and organized the Hope Bus rallies during the mass layoffs at Busan Hanjin Heavy Industries (now HJ Heavy Industries) shipyard.
