Strengthening On-site Response Capabilities
Against Illegal Foreign Fishing Vessels

The West Sea Regional Coast Guard Headquarters (Commissioner Lee Myungjun) held a "Workshop for Strengthening Crackdown and On-site Response Capabilities for Illegal Foreign Fishing Vessels" on the morning of the 11th, attended by about 30 participants including patrol vessel captains and field operation staff from affiliated Coast Guard stations.

According to the West Sea Regional Coast Guard Headquarters, the workshop shared effective response strategies and enforcement techniques for the Chinese fishing vessel operation season, and discussed key operational plans such as strengthening strategic patrols in maritime boundary areas to protect maritime sovereignty.

Additionally, participants shared information on current maritime security issues and internal safety incident cases, received training on major disaster prevention safety guidelines for patrol vessels, and exchanged information on the latest concealment methods and enforcement techniques related to the recent increase in illegal fishing cases involving Chinese vessels hiding catches in "secret fish holds" to underreport their catch.

Furthermore, the Coast Guard decided to continue intensive crackdowns to preemptively block the reckless illegal fishing activities of Chinese vessels using "Kkun"?groups of unauthorized foreign fishing boats that install boarding obstacles and operate without permits?especially during vulnerable nighttime hours or periods of adverse weather.

Commissioner Lee Myungjun of the West Sea Regional Coast Guard Headquarters stated, "We are strengthening practical on-site response training, including high-speed rescue boat operation capabilities, to safeguard maritime sovereignty, and we will respond firmly to any acts that deplete the fishery resources of the West Sea fishing grounds, which are assets of all our people."
