Democratic Party lawmakers Kim Min-seok, Nam In-soon, Min Hong-chul, Park Beom-gye, Park Hong-geun, Seo Young-kyo, Yoon Hu-deok, Lee Gae-ho, Lee Chun-seok, Lee Hak-young, Jung Cheong-rae, Jin Sun-mi, and Han Jeong-ae (listed in alphabetical order) held a press conference at the National Assembly that morning and stated, "We urge the Constitutional Court to swiftly decide on the dismissal of President Yoon to overcome public anxiety and national chaos."
In their press release, they criticized, "Yoon Seok-yeol, who had a heavier constitutional duty to protect the constitution than anyone else, instead committed an insurrection that directly challenged the constitutional order," and added, "The court, after great difficulty, made an incomprehensible decision to cancel the detention of the insurrection ringleader Yoon Seok-yeol, who was arrested and detained, and the prosecution abandoned the appeal with a bizarre trick, releasing the insurrection leader."
They pointed out, "The people, who had barely escaped from 'insurrection insomnia' due to Yoon Seok-yeol's arrest and detention, are now complaining of severe stress again," and "Efforts to revive the dying flame of the livelihood economy are also at risk of being in vain."
They continued, "It has been exactly two weeks since the Constitutional Court concluded the impeachment trial arguments against the president," and noted, "Considering the precedents of the impeachment trials of former Presidents Roh Moo-hyun and Park Geun-hye, sufficient time has passed to make a decision."
They also stated, "The Constitutional Court, which deals with the constitutional violation of insurrection, has neither the need nor the obligation to resume the trial. There is no reason to delay the decision any further," and warned, "If Yoon Seok-yeol is not dismissed and returns to office, he will undoubtedly plot a second insurrection."
Furthermore, they emphasized, "The Constitutional Court, the highest institution for constitutional interpretation, is the last bastion protecting the constitutional order and democracy," and stressed, "All constitutional justices bear the grave responsibility to resolve the current chaos. Due to the series of incidents, a prompt decision on the impeachment of President Yoon Seok-yeol by the Constitutional Court is necessary."
