District Mayor Park Heeyoung: "Top Priority is Protecting Residents' Safety"
Strengthening Safety Measures for Elementary School Students During Commute
Yongsan-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Park Hee-young) announced on the 11th that it has reactivated the 'Dedicated Task Force (TF)' since the 7th and established a temporary crosswalk on the south side of Bukhannam Samgeori after protests near the presidential residence in Hannam-dong resumed following the release of President Yoon Seok-yeol, who had been in custody.
Yongsan-gu established a temporary crosswalk 46 meters long on the south side of Bukhannam Samgeori on the 9th. Provided by Yongsan-gu.
The task force is composed of seven functional teams and one inspection team. The dedicated team carries out tasks such as waste disposal, traffic measures, reinforcement of illegal parking enforcement, and protecting a safe educational environment at Hannam Elementary School. The district plans to operate the task force flexibly according to the situation to minimize inconvenience to residents.
In particular, the district, in consultation with related organizations such as the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the National Police Agency, established a temporary crosswalk measuring 8 meters wide and 46 meters long on the south side of Bukhannam Samgeori on the 9th. This measure was taken due to the closure of the pedestrian overpass at Bukhannam Samgeori for a detailed safety inspection and securing safety, aiming to reduce inconvenience for pedestrians.
To operate the temporary crosswalk, the district installed vehicle protective fences, floodlights, signal and speed enforcement cameras, and simultaneously carried out sidewalk expansion and curb lowering work. The crosswalk has been officially operational since 9 a.m. on the 9th, and future operation will be reviewed based on the results of the detailed safety inspection.
Additionally, to support the safe commuting of students at Hannam Elementary School, about ten safety management personnel, including volunteers, local residents, and public officials, patrol daily. Emergency care locations will also be provided to ensure students do not face difficulties in learning during school closures.
District Mayor Park Hee-young stated, “Minimizing inconvenience to residents caused by the resumption of protests and prioritizing the safety of district residents is the most important task. In particular, we will thoroughly prepare for the safety of students and promptly take necessary measures to ensure residents do not experience inconvenience.”
