Gyeonggi-do Implements 'Fine Dust Emergency Reduction Measures' on 11th... Only Odd-Numbered Vehicles Allowed to Operate

Gyeonggi Province has implemented the "Emergency Reduction Measures" starting from 6 a.m. on the 11th, following the issuance of the fine dust crisis alert at the "Interest" level.

Earlier, the Ministry of Environment issued a fine dust crisis alert at the "Interest" level for the metropolitan areas including Gyeonggi, Seoul, and Incheon at 5 p.m. on the 10th.

Gyeonggi Province explained that this emergency reduction measure was issued because a fine dust advisory (hourly average concentration exceeding 75㎍/㎥ for more than 2 hours) was issued on the 10th, and the fine dust concentration on the 11th is forecasted to exceed 50㎍/㎥.

Accordingly, on the 11th, only odd-numbered vehicles are allowed to operate in administrative and public institutions, excluding vehicles for the disabled, pregnant women, infants and young children, special purpose vehicles, and eco-friendly vehicles such as electric, hydrogen, solar-powered, and hybrid cars.

Gyeonggi Provincial Government

At large fine dust emission sites within the province, including public facilities such as waste incineration plants, measures such as adjusting operation rates, shortening operating hours, and improving facility efficiency will be implemented.

At construction sites, dust suppression measures such as changing and adjusting working hours and covering dust with protective sheets will be enforced, with a particular emphasis on strengthening road cleaning within urban areas.

Additionally, inspections and guidance will be conducted on vehicle emissions, idling, workplaces, and construction sites, and monitoring and crackdowns on illegal incineration will be intensified.

Cha Seong-su, Director of the Climate Environment and Energy Bureau of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "As this is the third time this year that high-concentration fine dust emergency reduction measures have been issued, we plan to thoroughly implement reduction measures across all sectors," and urged, "We ask residents to refrain from outdoor activities, wear masks, and avoid actions that cause air pollution, following the guidelines for responding to high-concentration fine dust."
