County-Wide Quarantine Reinforced
All-Out Effort to Prevent Damage to Pig Farms
Uiseong County in North Gyeongsang Province announced on the 10th that it has designated the "Uiseong County Intensive Disinfection Day" and will carry out large-scale quarantine activities throughout the county to prevent the spread of African Swine Fever (ASF).
This quarantine effort follows the detection of the ASF virus in a wild boar carcass found in Dongbyeon-ri, Jeomgok-myeon, Uiseong County on the 5th. There have been seven confirmed ASF cases so far this year.
The county has taken preemptive measures to block the influx of the ASF virus into pig farms and minimize potential damage to the local pig farming industry.
On this Intensive Disinfection Day, 856 quarantine personnel and 56 disinfection vehicles will be mobilized with the cooperation of 10 local organizations, including the village head association and county-owned disinfection vehicles.
Intensive disinfection will be carried out in all 18 towns and townships, focusing on vulnerable areas such as the surroundings of farms, residential areas, and local roads. In particular, for the 43 farms where ASF has occurred, the county will minimize vehicle and personnel access and strengthen quarantine by using drones to spray repellents.
Kim Jusu, Governor of Uiseong County, said, "ASF is a deadly infectious disease that can cause significant damage if it occurs, so thorough quarantine is essential. We will do everything possible, including reinforcing disinfection around livestock farms and border roads, and we ask pig farmers to strictly follow basic quarantine guidelines to prevent outbreaks."
Uiseong County plans to do its utmost through these quarantine activities to block the spread of ASF and ensure the stability of the local pig farming industry.
