Korea-Japan Parliamentary League Visit to Japan, June 10-12
Strengthening Cooperation for the Korea-Japan Hydrogen Ecosystem
Hyundai Motor Company announced on the 10th that it will participate in the Korea-Japan Parliamentary League's visit to Japan to establish a hydrogen cooperation network and promote exchanges within Japan.
The event, held over three days from the 10th to the 12th in Tokyo and Kawasaki, Japan, was organized to build an organic hydrogen cooperation system between Korea and Japan, create a global-scale hydrogen industry ecosystem, and accelerate the expansion of the hydrogen market.
Hyundai Motor will also prepare and promote practical cooperation measures, including the development and establishment of international hydrogen technology standards, demonstration projects for hydrogen production technologies such as ammonia cracking (extracting hydrogen by decomposing ammonia), and the introduction of competitive hydrogen-related components.
The event will be attended by five Korean lawmakers, including Joo Ho-young, Vice Speaker of the National Assembly and Chairman of the Korea-Japan Parliamentary League; Lee Jong-bae, co-representative of the National Assembly Hydrogen Economy Forum; and lawmakers Kim So-hee, Park Seong-hoon, and Park Chung-kwon. On the Japanese side, seven members will attend, including Yoshihide Suga, Chairman of the Japan-Korea Parliamentary League and former Prime Minister; Akihisa Nagashima, Secretary-General of the Japan-Korea Parliamentary League; Hideki Miyauchi; Kaname Tajima; Yoshihiro Kawano; Shozo Kudo; and Masahiro Komura.
Additionally, to broadly expand the hydrogen cooperation network, accompanying the delegation are Kim Sang-hyup, Secretary-General of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI); Kim Jae-hong, Chairman of the Korea Hydrogen Union (H2KOREA); and others, including Hyundai Motor. Kawasaki City Hall, leading Japan’s hydrogen industry, and hydrogen-related companies will also participate, introducing Japan’s hydrogen industry status and facilities, with key figures and sectors from both Korea and Japan jointly leading the global transition to a hydrogen society.

During the event, participants will visit the Tokyo Tower hydrogen charging station, hold a Korea-Japan and Japan-Korea Parliamentary League hydrogen energy opinion exchange meeting, attend a hydrogen roundtable at Kawasaki City Hall, tour hydrogen facilities at Chiyoda Chemical Construction, and inspect the Kobe Port liquefied hydrogen terminal.
In particular, at the hydrogen energy opinion exchange meeting held at the House of Representatives First Members’ Office Building in Tokyo on the day, lawmakers from both countries agreed to actively promote parliamentary-level support to lead cooperation in building a global hydrogen society.
Building on this meeting, Korean and Japanese lawmakers plan to concretize cooperation on unifying clean hydrogen recognition standards, leading hydrogen refueling technology standardization, mutual certification compatibility of hydrogen-related products, and joint development of hydrogen production technologies. They also discussed establishing a hydrogen-related parliamentary research group in Japan similar to Korea’s National Assembly Hydrogen Economy Forum to operate regular meetings.
A Hyundai Motor official stated, "Korea and Japan are countries possessing world-class hydrogen technologies," adding, "We hope this visit to Japan will serve as a stepping stone to maximize mutual synergy effects between the two countries."
