Police to Request Autopsy from National Forensic Service
A newborn infant was transported to a hospital after being found in the bathroom of a villa in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, but died, prompting the police to launch an investigation.
According to Yonhap News on the 10th, at around 12:56 a.m., the boyfriend of the mother, Ms. B (23), discovered the newborn girl, A, in the bathroom of a villa in Wonmi-gu and reported it to emergency services.
At the time, A weighed 2 kg and was transported to the hospital by the 119 emergency medical team but passed away an hour later.
Ms. B told the fire department, "I did not know I was pregnant," and added, "Since 7 p.m. yesterday (the 9th), I had severe abdominal pain and took painkillers."
A fire department official said, "When we arrived at the villa after receiving the report, the baby was inside the toilet bowl," adding, "The baby was not breathing and had no pulse; after cutting the umbilical cord, we transported her to the hospital."
The police plan to request an autopsy from the National Forensic Service to determine the cause of A's death.
A police official stated, "Once Ms. B, who is currently at the hospital, recovers, she will be investigated as a witness regarding A's death," and added, "No criminal suspicion has been found so far."
