Kwon Seong-dong: "Prompt Ruling Needed on Prime Minister Han's Impeachment"
To the Constitutional Court and Prosecution: "Siding with Lee Jae-myung Will Only Lead to Abandonment"
Kwon Seong-dong, floor leader of the People Power Party, urged the Constitutional Court on the 9th, saying, "A simultaneous ruling on the President and the Prime Minister is an issue that could lead to the collapse of state affairs, so it is not worth considering," and called for a prompt impeachment ruling on Prime Minister Han Deok-su. He criticized the Democratic Party, which threatened impeachment if Prosecutor General Shim Woo-jung does not resign immediately, saying, "The impeachment addiction of Lee Jae-myung's faction has reached a level that should be dealt with as a special threat crime under criminal law."
At a press conference held at the National Assembly on the same day, Floor Leader Kwon said, "Regardless of the outcome of the President's ruling, social confusion is expected, and if there is a change in the acting position, even the executive branch will fall into great chaos."
He added, "I hope a prompt impeachment ruling on Prime Minister Han will be made," and said, "Only then can we put a brake on the impeachment rampage of Lee Jae-myung's faction and promote political stability."
Regarding the Democratic Party, which mentioned impeachment against Prosecutor General Shim, he pointed out, "They ignore law and principles and intend to impeach first whenever something displeases them." He continued, "'If Lee Jae-myung is displeased, impeachment,' 'If the Democratic Party is not obedient, impeachment,' and they threaten to suspend duties by impeachment at any moment."
After the prosecution gave up on an immediate appeal against the court's decision to cancel President Yoon's detention, Park Chan-dae, floor leader of the Democratic Party, held a protest rally at the National Assembly that morning and stated, "If (Prosecutor General Shim) refuses to resign immediately, we will take all measures, including impeachment."
In response, Floor Leader Kwon said, "They intend to paralyze the entire organization by suspending the Prosecutor General from duty as retaliation because they are dissatisfied with the prosecution's decision."
He criticized, "The unlicensed investigative rampage of the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) without qualifications and abilities has shackled the President with chains of illegality and lawlessness, and it was the Democratic Party that created the CIO through semi-proportional representation and political deals. They incited the investigative rampage and, upon failure, are now venting their anger with abusive language."
He urged the Constitutional Court and the prosecution, saying, "Do not be swayed by the Democratic Party's intimidation. Abide by law and principles," and added, "Trying to curry favor with Lee Jae-myung by watching the Democratic Party's mood will only result in being discarded like a used tool. Lee Jae-myung is the one who, like Gungye, mercilessly retaliated and purged fellow lawmakers using the 'interest law'."
