Only Boryeong, Cheonan, and Geumsan Rated as "Excellent"
Asan, Yesan, and Others Receive "Poor" Evaluations
In the "2024 Public Data Provision and Operation Status Evaluation" announced by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, a significant number of basic local governments in the Chungnam region received a "poor" rating. As a result, there is growing criticism that citizens are experiencing increased inconvenience due to decreased accessibility and usability of public data.
According to the "2024 Public Data Provision and Operation Status Evaluation Ratings by Institution" released by the Ministry on the 4th, Chungnam Province scored 96.97 points in this evaluation, maintaining the "highest rating" for the fifth consecutive year.
Among the basic local governments in the Chungnam region, only Boryeong, Cheonan, and Geumsan received excellent evaluations, while Hongseong received an average rating.
On the other hand, 11 cities and counties, including Seocheon, Gyeryong, Gongju, Nonsan, Dangjin, Buyeo, Seosan, Asan, Yesan, Cheongyang, and Taean, received poor evaluations.
Public data plays an important role in providing citizens with various information such as transportation, environment, welfare, and safety.
However, there is ongoing criticism that the data provision systems of local governments with poor ratings are incomplete or of low quality, reducing their effectiveness.
In particular, there are concerns that companies and research institutions may face obstacles in developing new services using the data, which could further widen the information gap between regions.
Additionally, if citizens cannot easily access the data they need, civil complaints may increase and the quality of public services may decline.
Accordingly, many believe that each local government needs to improve its public data management system and make efforts to enhance usability.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety conducts annual evaluations to promote the provision and utilization of public data, comprehensively considering management systems, provision and utilization levels, and data quality when assigning evaluation ratings.
