Gimpo City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Byung-su), selected as the host city for the ‘2025 Korea Reading Festival,’ announced on the 7th that it has appointed former Vice Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Yoo Dong-hoon as the general director to plan and oversee all aspects of Gimpo, the City of Books, at the ‘2025 Korea Reading Festival.’ This decision was made following a public recruitment process that began in February, including document and interview evaluations.
General Director Yoo is a cultural policy expert who has served as the 2nd Vice Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Chair Professor of Media Communication at Dong-A University’s College of Social Sciences, and President of the Chungnam Research Institute.
As the ideal candidate to professionally lead the planning and operation of the 2025 Korea Reading Festival, General Director Yoo is expected to contribute to the festival’s progressive development based on his extensive experience and expertise through this appointment.
General Director Yoo Dong-hoon stated, “The Korea Reading Festival is an important event for spreading reading culture nationwide and establishing a culture of book reading among citizens,” adding, “Especially this year, in accordance with the 4th Basic Plan for the Promotion of Reading Culture announced by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, we will prepare diverse and creative programs.”
Meanwhile, the 2025 Korea Reading Festival, a public project by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, selects one local government each year as the City of Books. Starting with the City of Books proclamation ceremony, various reading culture programs reflecting the identity of books and the region will be held throughout Gimpo for about a year. The largest reading culture festival in the nation is scheduled to take place over three days from September 19 to 21 at Gimpo Hangang Central Park.
