Damyang-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 6th that it will officially begin issuing mobile resident registration cards.

The mobile resident registration card is an ID card that has the same legal effect as a physical resident registration card both online and offline. It can be safely stored on a personal mobile phone, allowing for convenient and quick identity verification.

To obtain the card, users can either install the 'Korea Mobile ID' app on their own mobile phone and issue the card via QR code, or apply for a resident registration card embedded with an IC chip.

The IC chip resident registration card requires a photo taken within the last six months and a fee of 10,000 KRW, but it is free for first-time applicants. The QR code method is free and can be issued immediately, but if you change your mobile phone or delete the app, you must visit the local town or township office again. In contrast, if you apply for the IC chip resident registration card, you can reissue it even if you delete the app.

Currently, applications can only be made at the town or township office in the applicant's registered district. However, starting on the 28th, issuance will be possible anywhere nationwide, and online applications via Government24 will also be introduced.

An official from the county said, "We expect that the mobile resident registration card will greatly improve convenience for residents," and added, "We will continue to do our best to provide civil services that satisfy our residents."
