Gyeonggi Province Provides "Emergency Livelihood Stabilization Funds" to Victims of Pocheon Shell Accident
Support for Psychological Stability of Residents and Swift Repair Assistance for Affected Households

Gyeonggi Province announced emergency livelihood stabilization funds and other support measures related to the accidental bomb discharge during military training in Pocheon City, Gyeonggi Province, which occurred on the 6th.

On the same day, Oh Pu-seok, Deputy Governor for Administration of Gyeonggi Province, held a briefing at the site of the accidental bomb discharge in Pocheon City and stated that emergency livelihood stabilization funds would be provided to the victims under the Emergency Welfare Act, and injured persons would receive one-on-one matching support until the accident is resolved. He also said that they would cooperate to ensure that national-level medical expense support for the injured is fully implemented. In particular, he emphasized that by providing emergency livelihood stabilization funds under the Emergency Welfare Act, they would support a swift return to normal life.


A joint investigation team composed of military, fire department, and public officials is currently investigating the damage site, while Gyeonggi Province has provided lodging and meals to displaced residents who cannot stay at home. So far, the number of households identified in the core affected area is 56, of which 30 households are in a situation where staying at home is difficult.


On the 7th, Gyeonggi Province will support all households with detailed safety inspections to ensure safe and prompt repairs, and to support the psychological stability of residents anxious due to the accidental bomb discharge, a Disaster Psychological Recovery Support Center has been set up on site to provide psychological support services.


In addition, to support the accident response of the Pocheon City Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, Gyeonggi Province has also formed a Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters and pledged to oversee the accident response until it is fully completed.


Deputy Governor Oh said, “The residents of northern Gyeonggi have sacrificed for national security for the past 75 years,” and urged, “The military should establish national-level measures to ensure residents’ safety during similar training exercises to prevent unfortunate accidents like today from recurring.”
