Mungyeong Station and Jungang Line Abandoned Section Idle Land, Private Development Public Contest

The Korea Rail Network Authority announced on the 6th that it will accept private sector proposals to develop two idle sites: the old Mungyeong Station and the section of the Jungang Line between the old Ganhyeon Station and Pandae Station.

The idle site of the old Mungyeong Station covers an area of 88,188㎡ and is close to the Mungyeong Bus Terminal, resulting in high foot traffic. The idle site between the old Ganhyeon Station and Pandae Station spans 239,401㎡ and is near the Ganhyeon tourist area, which includes the Sogeumsan Suspension Bridge, Ulleong Bridge, and a camping site. It also extends up to Seowonju Station.

This call for proposals will determine the development direction and scale by leveraging the locational advantages of each site. The plan is to proceed in a way that creates commercial facilities or tourism transportation infrastructure linked to railway stations, allowing easy access for railway users.

Applications are accepted until June 5. A business briefing session will be held at the Authority’s Seoul Metropolitan Headquarters on the 25th of this month. Lee Seong-hae, Chairman of the Korea Rail Network Authority, said, "We expect private proposals that will transform the idle railway sites into spaces representing each region, contributing to revitalizing the local economy and creating jobs."
