Changnyeong-gun Successfully Concludes the '64th 3·1 Folk Culture Festival'

Changnyeong-gun, Gyeongnam Province announced on the 6th that the 64th 3·1 Folk Culture Festival, held over four days from February 28 to March 3, concluded successfully with over 36,000 visitors despite inclement weather.


The 3·1 Folk Culture Festival is Changnyeong-gun's representative traditional cultural event that began in 1961. It focuses on inheriting and developing the Yeongsan Soemori Daegi, a national intangible cultural heritage, and the Yeongsan Juldarigi, registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, while widely promoting their value.

On the 28th, the eve ceremony featured Janggun Bigosa, a street parade, Jwibulnori, fireworks, and celebratory performances, attracting many residents and tourists to Mannyeon Bridge, Yeonji Pond, Yeongsan Playground, and Yeongsan National Sports and Culture Center.


In particular, through the street parade and the reenactment of the 3·1 Independence Manse, time was dedicated to honoring the noble spirit of the 23-member independence militia.


The main events of this festival, the public performances of Yeongsan Soemori Daegi and Yeongsan Juldarigi, were held on the 1st and 3rd respectively. Generals divided into East and West teams competed, promoting unity and harmony among residents, showcasing the grandeur and solemnity of traditional play. Additionally, the lively performances by the East and West Nongak bands provided exciting entertainment for visitors, further elevating the festival atmosphere.

Before the event, Changnyeong-gun thoroughly prepared for visitor convenience by collaborating with the police station, fire station, and the organizing group, the 3·1 Folk Improvement Association, to secure pedestrian safety routes, resolve traffic congestion, install parking lot and restroom guide signs, and place event banners.


County Governor Seong Nak-in stated, “The 3·1 Folk Culture Festival is a precious event that embodies our region’s cultural pride and awakens the pride of our residents,” adding, “Next year, we will strive to offer a more differentiated and diverse range of attractions to provide visitors with a special experience.”
