Boryeong City, Chungnam Province, announced on the 6th that it will focus its administrative efforts on passing the preliminary feasibility study (pre-feasibility study) for the "CCU Mega Project," a large-scale carbon dioxide capture and utilization initiative led by the Ministry of Science and ICT.
This project is a large-scale national initiative that aims to demonstrate technology for producing Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) by capturing carbon dioxide emitted from thermal power plants.
The city was selected for the "CCU Mega Project" in October last year and has been chosen as a target for this year's pre-feasibility study.
The city plans to begin full-scale preparations, including establishing a response strategy for the pre-feasibility study through building a cooperative system with consortium member institutions and companies.
Boryeong City aims to become a leading eco-friendly industrial hub for the production of sustainable aviation fuel, revitalizing the local economy through connections with regional industries and creating new jobs.
Mayor Kim Dongil said, "The CCU Mega Project will be an opportunity for Boryeong City to become a leading city in carbon neutrality," adding, "We will spare no effort to support the passage of the pre-feasibility study so that this project can highlight its positive impact on the overall regional industry and contribute to achieving the national carbon neutrality goal."
