Integration of AI in Communications... KT Publishes '5G Intelligent Packet Core' White Paper at MWC

Securing Core Technologies for the 6G Network

KT announced on the 6th that it officially published the B5G (Beyond 5G)·6G evolution white paper titled 'Unlock 5G Potential: How Intelligent Packet Core Drive 5G Monetization' at the 'Mobile World Congress 2025 (MWC2025)' held in Barcelona, Spain.

KT presented the evolution direction of AI-based networks in the 6G era in the white paper. The 5G Intelligent Packet Core is a technology that integrates AI technology into the existing 5G packet core to efficiently process packet traffic. This technology supports mobile network operators in providing personalized services to customers.

In particular, KT included use cases of the Open Gateway API, which provides an interworking environment by utilizing AI-based core network technology of NWDAF for enhancing customer experience and open APIs (Application Programming Interfaces), in the white paper. NWDAF is a core network function defined as a 5G standard technology by 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project), which collects various information from communication networks and learns and analyzes it with AI models.

'Intelligent Packet Core ? GSMA Foundry' is a project aimed at providing services and experiences that combine networks and AI. KT has been participating since 2024, along with eight major global telecom operators and 5G equipment manufacturers including AIS, Etisalat, China Mobile, and Huawei.

KT is a board member of GSMA (GSM Association), the world's largest mobile network operator alliance, and is the only domestic telecom company to participate three consecutive times. KT has been active as a GSMA board member for five years since 2021 and is also involved in discussions on the direction of 6G, including participation in the publication of this white paper.

Jong-sik Lee, Executive Vice President and Head of KT Future Network Research Institute, stated, "AI-based network evolution to improve customer-perceived quality in the 6G era will be essential," adding, "KT will continue to actively cooperate with GSMA to secure key technologies for leading the global 6G network evolution."
