This meeting was organized to share the progress made so far regarding the constitutional petition for improving water source regulations, jointly filed by Namyangju City and representatives of Joan-myeon residents in October 2020.

On this day, 27 people attended, including village chiefs of Joan-myeon, heads of local social organizations, members of the Special Measures Area Water Quality Conservation Policy Council, and related officials. They shared the contents of the reference documents recently submitted to the Constitutional Court and future plans, discussing smooth cooperation and response measures.

The residents expressed their gratitude, saying, "We thank Namyangju City for continuously striving to relax the water source protection area regulations, which have been a long-standing wish of the residents," and welcomed the continuation of such communication opportunities with residents in the future.

Mayor Ju Gwang-deok of Namyangju City emphasized, "Unreasonable water source regulations based on sewage treatment technology standards from 50 years ago, which lack fairness and logic, must be improved," and added, "We will do our best to realize fair and rational water source management policies that fit the times."

He continued, "To this end, we will move away from relying on central government ministries and promote reasonable regulation relaxation in cooperation with residents."

Namyangju City plans to strengthen communication with residents by operating regular monthly residents' meetings going forward.
